Christmas will be safe' from shortages - reports Maersk's CEO

The CEO of shipping giant Maersk has assured the BBC that Christmas trading will be shielded from supply chain issues. Soren Skou, the chief executive, shared, "at least that's what I'm hearing from our customers." Managing nearly 20% of the world's shipping containers, Maersk is taking proactive measures, including chartering more ships, extending port hours, and establishing additional warehouses to address the challenges. Mr. Skou emphasized the company's commitment to doing "everything" possible to alleviate the current supply chain difficulties, citing a shortage of port workers and truckers as key factors behind the issues. Recent warnings in the UK and the US about potential Christmas shortages due to port logjams have prompted Maersk to take comprehensive steps to mitigate these concerns.

Taking care of yourself and saving time as an SME owner during busy periods

As the holiday season approaches, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can navigate the bustling period leading up to Christmas by adopting strategic measures to ensure their well-being.

Firstly, effective planning and inventory management are crucial. SMEs should assess historical data and current trends to anticipate demand accurately. By optimising stock levels and having a clear understanding of customer preferences, businesses can minimise the risk of overstocking or falling short during the festive rush.

Moreover, fostering clear communication with suppliers and customers is paramount. Establishing transparent channels for order tracking, delivery updates, and addressing customer queries promptly helps build trust and loyalty. Additionally, SMEs can leverage digital platforms and social media to promote their holiday offerings, engage with customers, and provide timely updates. Embracing a customer-centric approach, coupled with proactive planning, allows SMEs to not only navigate the busy Christmas season smoothly but also create a positive and memorable experience for their customers, potentially fostering long-term relationships.
